Privacy
In short
- Modulo collects no data. That is why the App Store says: "Data Not Collected".
- There is no account and no server. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No analytics, no third-party crash software, no ads, no tracking.
- Nothing about you or your music leaves your phone through Modulo.
- Only this website counts visits and clicks, with Google Analytics. How that works is under "This website".
What the app keeps on your phone
To make your library fast, Modulo keeps a few things, only on your phone:
- An index of your music: file names, folders, size, date and a fingerprint (MD5) per file.
- What the app reads from a module: title, artist, sample and instrument names, the song message, the duration, whether the track loops or ends, and its loudness.
- The covers Modulo draws from the music itself.
- A reference (bookmark) to every folder you link.
- A play cache and the tracks you keep offline.
- Files you copy into Modulo yourself. You see them in the Files app under "On My iPhone > Modulo".
- Your playlists, favorites, play counts, hidden tracks and your settings.
Delete the app and all of this is gone. Your phone's normal backup (iCloud or your computer) includes this data, as it does for every app. That is Apple's backup, not a Modulo server.
Your files and folders
- Modulo can only reach a folder you picked yourself in the iOS folder picker.
- Linked folders are only read. Modulo never writes into them: nothing is renamed, moved, deleted or added. "Delete" in the app means hide.
- Passwords for your PC, Mac or NAS are handled by iOS. Modulo never sees them.
- If a file is in iCloud Drive but not on your phone, iOS fetches it from Apple, as it does for any app. Modulo itself talks to no server at all.
Internet
Modulo makes no internet connections of its own. The only link to the outside is the one to The Mod Archive (modarchive.org): it opens in Safari, outside the app. What you do there is between you and that website.
Crash reports and feedback
Modulo contains no crash reporting software. If you turned on "Share with App Developers" in iOS, Apple sends crash reports to the developer. Apple handles that, and you can turn it off yourself in Settings. TestFlight testers can send feedback through Apple. If you email for support, the developer only has what you put in that email.
This website
This website (not the app) counts visits and clicks with Google Analytics. That shows how many people look at the site and how often someone taps a download button.
- What goes to Google: which page you view, which site or link brought you here, which button you click (for example App Store, Google Play, the language switch or the email address) and general details such as your country, your browser and your screen size.
- Google Analytics sets cookies on your device (
_ga), so a later visit counts as a returning one. They hold no name, email address or anything else that identifies you as a person. - Google only uses your IP address to work out your country or region and does not keep it. Google signals and advertising features are off.
- There is no cookie banner. If you would rather not be counted, an ad blocker or your browser's tracking protection stops it, and you can clear the cookies at any time. The site keeps working.
The site is served by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the page.
Changes
If anything changes in what Modulo or this website keeps or sends, it appears here first, with a new date at the top.
